Winnie the PoohFrom ToyReview
[edit] Toy OverviewWinnie the Pooh is a lovable bear who lives in the hundred acre woods with his friends. He is most well know for having a pot of honey by his side and hanging around with Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Roo and Rabbit. Many people think Pooh is targeted specifically at children but in fact he and his friends aim to appeal to everyone, especially with merchandise such as cuddly toys. The tales of Winnie the Pooh and his friend have been going for decades, he began as a small illustration in a book, but soon became one of the most popular television characters of all time once Disney found him. He and his friends all have different personalities and appearances that make each one unique, the main reason Pooh is so popular is because he is the cuddly, loving bear. The great thing about all Winnie the Pooh stories is that you wouldn't normally expect to see a kangaroo or pig living beside a tiger! This aspect makes the program surreal and fantasy like because in the hundred acre wood the different animals live together happily. Pooh was created by Alan Alexander Milne during the 1920's. The idea arose from his son's (Christopher Robin Milne) favourite stuffed bear that he had called Winnie. A tiger, donkey, pig and kangaroo were all soft toys owned by Christopher and were where Milne gained the inspiration for his successful characters. It was his wife Daphne who had suggested writing down his poems and stories. Milne wrote his first story entitled 'In Which We Are Introduced to Winnie-the-Pooh and Some Bees' in 1925. The story was later published in an evening newspaper and is where his magical journey began. The first book to be published was entitled 'When We Were Very Young'; this is where we are properly introduced to both Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin. In 1926 his second book was launched called 'Winnie-the-Pooh' shortly followed by 'Now We Are Six' in 1927. The final of A.A. Milne's books to be published was 'The House at Pooh Corner' in 1928. Disney was quick to catch on and during the 60's became eligible to produce a film about the characters. In 1966 they launched 'Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree' which was extremely successful. Pooh and his friends have appeared in Films, books and a TV series over the years, the newest media piece being 'The Tigger Movie' in 2000. A whole range of top selling merchandise has been produced and sold, including, cuddly toys, building sets, games, educational toys, lunchboxes, stationary and many more items.
