[edit] The Barbie Diaries Overview    The Barbie Diaries is the eighth Barbie movie to be released by Mattel and Lions Gate Family Entertainment, but this time Barbie is set in the real world. The movie follows her in high school on a journey of self-discovery where she learns important lessons about friendship, romance and self-confidence. She is joined by her two best friends – Tia and Courtney and wants desperately to catch the attention of her secret crush. The Barbie Diaries premieres on DVD in January 2006 and has inspired a whole new line of dolls and toys. Barbie has a new animated look in the movie, and an up to date soundtrack that rocks! Barbie dreams of playing guitar at the Fall Formal and has set up her very own band – the Charmz. The Barbie Diaries looks set to be popular with older Barbie fans, but some people have voiced some concern over the high school setting being too grown up for young Barbie fans. However, the product line is great and Barbie comes with her own guitar and butterfly shaped amp that plays songs from the soundtrack! [edit] Storyline and CharactersThe Barbie Diaries is the first Barbie movie to feature Barbie set in the real world. Previous movies have all been set in fantasy settings, such as Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus and Barbie Fairytopia Mermaidia. The Barbie Diaries is the eighth Barbie Movie to be released by Mattel and Lions Gate Family Entertainment, and comes just after the release of Barbie Fairytopia Mermaidia (the sequel of Barbie Fairytopia). The Barbie Diaries follows Barbie and her friends in high school, which moves away from the traditional princesses and fairies that Barbie’s adventures are traditionally based on. Not only is Barbie now in the real world, but she also has a new, animated look and an up to date soundtrack. In the movie, Barbie has two best friends – Tia and Courtney, and a huge crush on the most popular boy in school! Barbie also starts her own band (Charmz) and learns to rock, but playing on stage is a big step from playing in her garage! Barbie hopes for some exciting changes in her sophomore year, and with her special diary and charm bracelet, Barbie may just find the self-confidence to truly be herself! Barbie works at the school TV station with Raquelle – who tries to steal Barbie’s crush and ruin her sophomore year – and Barbie learns a lot about friendship, confidence and romance. The movie has inspired a whole range of dolls and toys, and each doll wears an outfit from a scene in the movie. The real world setting for The Barbie Diaries has caused differing reactions. Some people think Barbie’s positive influence in her fantasy settings is ready to be portrayed in a real life setting, however others feel that the high school setting is too grown up for young Barbie fans, where Barbie wants to be in the popular crowd and get the most popular boy in school to notice her. Only time will tell how popular this movie and product line will be, but going on previous movies, The Barbie Diaries will entertain Barbie fans. The Barbie Diaries features Barbie and her friends with a great new, animated look. Set in the real world, this movie is far from the fantasy worlds of fairies and princesses! The product line inspired by the movie is great and all the dolls wear outfits taken from a scene in the movie. Barbie comes with her very own guitar and butterfly shaped amp that really plays music from the soundtrack! Alongside Barbie, Tia, Courtney and Raquelle can be bought in this collection, and they too wear fashionable clothes. Other products include an electronic diary, charm bracelet and secret fortune teller. The product line will give Barbie fans everywhere hours of fun and the magic from the movie can be recreated in their very own homes! [edit] Barbie's Appearance and OutfitThe Barbie Diaries Barbie Doll has her traditional long blonde hair. She has curled it in this collection and wears one side in a cute little topknot. The rest of her hair flows down her back and looks gorgeous – as usual! She also has a plastic butterfly accessory on the top of her head and wears some pink, hoop earrings. Barbie has bright blue eyes and wears blue, pink and white eye shadow to really make them sparkle. She separates her long eyelashes with black mascara and completes the look with some black eyeliner. She has a pale complexion and wears a touch of pink blusher to brighten up her cheeks. On her lips she wears a light pink lip-gloss and her lips are closed, but her mouth is slightly smiling. Barbie always looks beautiful, and this collection is no exception. Barbie wears a pink t-shirt, pink cardigan and some denim jeans. The pink t-shirt is sleeveless and has a big picture of a butterfly on the front. The cardigan has holes in (in a crocheted effect) and the sleeves have a thin layer of netting underneath that makes them sparkle. The cardigan ties up across her chest in a single bow and has silver sparkly material woven in and out of it. Her jeans are light denim and have white pinstripes down them, with cute turn-ups at the bottom. On her wrist Barbie wears a butterfly charm bracelet (like in the movie) and a matching butterfly belt. She wears pink wedges on her feet that match the rest of her outfit. The best thing about this doll is the guitar and butterfly shaped amp that plays songs from the movie! The guitar is dark pink and has lighter pink butterfly designs on. It has a big pink strap so she can wear it across her shoulders and a wire that connects the guitar to the amp. The amp is silver and pink and is designed in the shape of a butterfly. There a little pink buttons on the front, which if you press, play a song from the movie! Barbie also comes with a little diary/notepad, pencil, pink handbag and song sheets. This doll is fab and will keep young fans entertained for hours! The toy is ideal for children 5 years +. Her clothes are great and she comes with other great accessories too. The best thing about the product is that the amp really plays a song from the movie!
