Hot WheelsFrom ToyReview
[edit] Toy DescriptionHot Wheels are a series of toy cars produced in the United States by the well-known toy company Mattel. Although a US product, Hot Wheels cars are extremely popular in the UK and are popular collectables for people of all ages. Since the product was established in 1968 many styles, shapes and variations of cars have been brought to the market and proved highly successful around the globe. The cars are continuously developed in appearance to keep up to date with the supercar image and technical modifications take place to ensure the cars remain as advanced as possible. Plastic racetracks are available to accompany the cars that can be made into loops for the cars to fly through; the tracks use the force of gravity to push the cars along so the starting end must be placed higher. Some of the tracks are wider and have a partition allowing two cars to race; a flag at the finishing line decides the winner. Alternative vehicles and toys have evolved from the popular miniature cars, including trucks, motorcycles, play sets and games, all of which have been successful products. [edit] Hot Wheels HistoryMr Elliott Handler invented the Hot Wheels idea during the 1960's. Handler had co-founded his company Mattel with wife Ruth Handler who shortly before had created Barbie, the most successful doll ever made. They knew they had the ability to come up with a highly successful product and they didn't disappoint. The first set of cars were released in 1968 and included models such as the Corvette, the Cougar, the Barracuda, the Firebird, the Mustang, the Volkswagen, the Deora and the Hot Heap. Due to the success of the first 16 models in 1968, Mattel produced their second set of cars, which hit the shops in 1969. Designs included the Chaparrel 2G, the Charger, the AMX, the Lotus Turbine, the Mclaren M6A, the Rolls Royce, the Police Cruiser, the Mercedes Benz 280SL and the Ford MK IV. The first models from the 'Classic' range were also introduced during this year; the 31 Ford Woody, the 32 Ford Vicky, the 36 Ford Coupe and the 57 Bird. There were only another 21 cars produced from this range therefore became admired collectors items. Over the years a number of new designs have been worked on and Mattel have produced millions of vehicles sold worldwide. Models such as the Mitsubishi Eclipse, the Firestorm, the Maserati, the Subaru Impreza, the Vandetta, the Speed Blaster, the Hydroplane and the Mini Cooper have all been highly successful products along with the many others that have been released over the decades. 2006 is set to bring some exciting new creations including the Honda Civic Si and the Porsche Carrera GT. [edit] Cars and ToysThe cars themselves are only about 6 or 7cm in length but the detail they contain is stunning. They have exactly the same features as the actual car would have and look just as luxurious. Each model comes under one of the following categories: Street Car, Racing Car, Extreme Car, Rigs or Buses, Vans and Off Road Vehicles - (cars and trucks). Formula Fuelers, Motocross and Stunt - (cycles). Hot Wheels have even combined with other brands such as Spiderman to create appealing designs and new markets. Many play sets have been released by Mattel to accompany the cars and they have been extremely succussful toys. The best selling Hot Wheels toy of 2005 was the Gorilla Attack play set that consisted of a roller coaster track with multiple loops and a large angry gorilla figure in the centre. During 2006 they launched the Crazy Croc Playset - a large detailed talking crocodile head that you must outsmart with your cars before his jaw snaps! The set also includes a boat that launches off the deck. [edit] Top Sellers of 2006

Rating: ![]() Do not buy The Hot Wheels Grand Prix 6 Pack for The Speed Racer Sky Jump. These are the cars that are marketed for the Sky Jump, but some do not work. The cars are too heavy and fall off the track. The Sky Jump itself is awesome with the cars that do work, the one that comes with it. I called Mattel they really had no explination for this problem , so do not waste your money to buy extra cars. Comment by Lewis, Thursday 10th April 2008

I don't really play with them i just look at them which some of you may think is boring but the thing is i don't have any tracks or anything like that so i can't.
