[edit] Brand OverviewHasbro is the second largest toy manufacturer in the world; its leading competitor is Mattel who created products such as Barbie, Hot Wheels and Cabbage Patch Kids, all of which helped Mattel to its giant success. Hasbro is based in America but its products are sold all over the world in toy stores, supermarkets and online stores. They are the manufacturers of some extremely popular kid's toys like My Little Pony, B-Daman and Star Wars to name a few. Another world renowned game it is responsible for is Monopoly; probably the most famous board game ever created! Although Mattel is a larger toy company (in terms of revenue), Hasbro is definitely the king of board games, other great selling products include Cluedo – the murder mystery game and Scrabble and Pictionary. The company was established in the 1940's and since then has produced thousands of popular products. Hasbro is clearly one of the dominant market leaders and if Mattel hadn't thought of the Barbie brand, they would be the ultimate toy manufacturer. [edit] HistoryHasbro first came about when a guy called George Lerner thought up the idea of Mr Potato Head in the 1940's. Mr Potato Head almost instantly took off and is still a leading children's toy today. The clever yet simple idea of the character really appealed to young children and he even had a leading role in the Toy Story movies alongside Woody and Buzz! In the last 60 years Hasbro has acquired a number of firms, some of the best known ones are Playskool, Tiger Electronics and Tonka. Hasbro also owns a number of Brands, most of which have been around for decades. My Little Pony is Hasbro's most world renowned girl's toy; this brand is a cute range of collectable ponies aimed at young girls between the ages of 3 and 10 years. Hasbro have brought out a new collection of themed ponies almost every year since the product was launched in 1982. Play-Doh is also another brilliant toy aimed at young boys and girls, it is coloured, distinct smelling dough that comes in small plastic pots and can be used to create all sorts of shapes and models. You can buy loads of equipment and machines to accompany the Play-Doh sets such as shape cutters and moulds. Transformers (a popular children's TV series in the 80's) are also a range of popular boys' toys that have been going for over 20 years. The toys are known as the 'Robots in Disguise' and transform from vehicles to robots. Currently available in toy stores are Star Wars Transformers – a mix between the two! Hasbro also owns the Star Wars toys and in 2005 hit on a huge product with the 'Darth Vader Voice Changing Mask'. [edit] Popular brands by Hasbro include:
