[edit] Brand OverviewThe Disney Princess collection derived from the eight unique Princesses of the Disney character world. They include Aurora (the Sleeping Beauty Princess), Cinderella, Snow White, Jasmine from Aladdin, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Arial from The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas and Mulan. Each Princess has her own look and personality and when these characters are brought together they create an explosion of colours and styles. Since the Disney Princess characters became united, a number of children targeted products have been launched. These include backpacks, lunchboxes, pencil cases and stationary, puzzles, costumes, dolls and models. A collection of merchandise that sells extremely well is the Disney Princess party sets; plates, cups, hats, invitations and many more items are available with matching illustrations. [edit] Princess Characters  The first Disney Princess character to appear on our screens was Snow White in 1937; the film is a classic and still found in many people's video cupboards all around the world. Cinderella was the next princess to be introduced to us back in 1950 shortly followed by Sleeping Beauty's Aurora in 1959. After the release of these three films there was a large gap and it wasn't until 1989 that Disney released their next princess film - The Little Mermaid. Beauty and the Beast followed this in 1991 where we met Belle and then Aladdin in 1992 where we saw Princess Jasmine. The final two films to be released were Pocahontas in 1995 and Mulan in 1998, these were much more up to date representations compared to the previous six Princess films. [edit] AuroraThe evil witch Maleficent cursed Aurora when she was just a baby so that on her 16th birthday she would prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die. One of the good witches (Merryweather) changed the spell so she would instead sleep for 100 years and be awoken by the kiss of a handsome Prince. Aurora was taken into the forest to live a new life and be watched over by her fairies, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather. Maleficent finds a way to trap Aurora; she pricks her finger and falls to the floor where she sleeps for 100 years. The fairies cast a spell so the rest of the kingdom sleeps with her and she is awoken by the kiss of the Prince. [edit] CinderellaTreated as a servant by her evil stepmother and stepsisters, Cinderella dreamed of life beyond her chores. Her fairy godmother visits unexpectedly and transforms her ragged clothes into a beautiful ball gown and she goes to the ball. The Prince sees her and they dance around the floor but when 12 o'clock comes she begins to change back into her rags and she runs from the ball accidentally leaving one of her glass slippers behind. The Prince finds her and they live happily ever after. [edit] Snow WhiteJealous of Snow White's appearance, the evil Queen stepmother sends Snow White away so she finds her way into the forest and comes across a small cottage. The cottage belonged to seven dwarfs who become friends with Snow White. Their names are Happy, Grumpy, Doc, Bashful, Sneezy, Sleepy and Dopey. She meets her Prince and he whisks her away so she is safe from the evil Queen. [edit] JasmineA curious young girl who wanted to find out about life beyond her palace ran away and bumped into Aladdin. Aladdin had found a lamp in a dark cave and released a genie who gave him wishes and helped get Aladdin and Princess Jasmine together. Their battle against evil Jafar is won and they can live happily together in the kingdom. [edit] BelleAgrees to live with the beast in exchange for her father's freedom, although she sees his aggressive side, belle gives him a chance and he shows her he can be kind. Eventually she falls in love with the beast and breaks the spell turning him back into the handsome prince he once was. [edit] ArialA little mermaid who dreams of becoming a human and living on land always in trouble with her father King Triton for misbehaving. One night a storm hits and a group of humans on a boat are in trouble, Arial rescues a man who turns out to be Prince Eric and falls in love with him instantly. Evil witch Ursula uses Arial to get at the King and casts a spell to change her tail into legs in exchange for her beautiful voice. Ursula thinks she has won but then Eric steers his boat into her and kills her. King Triton realises Arial's desperate need to be human and changes her forever. [edit] Pocahontascurious young Native American girl who dreams of a life over the other side of the river. Along her travels she meets a young British soldier called John Smith and they are immediately attracted to one another. Conflict between the British and the Indians increases and John is captured and set to be executed. Pocahontas tells them they must kill her first but then John is injured after trying to save the chief from the British. [edit] MulanThe story of a young Chinese girl who feels guilty because she is unable to find a husband and thinks she has disgraced her family. A war has just began and the emperor requires one male from every family to fight. Mulan dresses as a boy and goes to war in order to save her father from fighting. [edit] Character AppearanceAurora – A tall Princess with long blond hair who starts in an unattractive long brown dress but ends up in a beautiful pink ball gown that the three fairies made for her. Cinderella – Begins in rags but transforms into a stunning Princess with blond hair and a white sparkly ball gown with black choker. Snow White – Short black hair, pale skin and deep red lips complimented by a red bow in her hair and blue, red, gold and white dress. Jasmine – Beautiful long black hair tied back with turquoise bands, a turquoise outfit to match and gold jewellery. Belle – Brown wavy hair and large deep green eyes. She is most well known in her gold off-the-shoulder ball gown and gold gloves. Arial – Long bright red hair, huge green/blue eyes, a purple bikini top and of course her green mermaid tail. Wears a white dress and gold tiara in wedding scene. Pocahontas – Young Native American girl with long straight black hair and deep red lips. She has a light brown dress with matching boots and turquoise necklace. Mulan – Young Chinese girl with long black hair and big brown eyes. She wears a number of graceful, Chinese style gowns.
