[edit] Further Information about Cali Girl Barbie[edit] Theme OverviewWith the split of Barbie and Ken in February 2004, Barbie has a new man on the scene - Blaine, a surfer from Sydney. Barbie and Ken had been dating for 43 years but Barbie's new found lifestyle has lead to the launch of the new 'Cali Girl Barbie Doll' collection. Barbie and her friends enjoy the sun, sea and surf in California, where they wear the trendiest beach gear and great accessories. All the dolls in this collection have gorgeous sun kissed skin and smell like sun tan lotion! Ever since her debut in 1959, Barbie has continued to reinvent herself at every opportunity and with growing competition (e.g. with the Bratz dolls) she has had to work even harder to keep up with recent styles and trends. Yet Barbie remains popular with young girls everywhere and the Cali Girl collection is no exception - Barbie looks gorgeous with her sun-streaked hair and suntanned body, and she even smells great! Blaine too looks amazing, as do all their friends - Christie, Teresa, Summer, Lea and Steven. The dolls all have painted toenails, which make their feet look more realistic for their beach experience! [edit] Dolls and HistoryCali Girl Barbie is a trendy new look for Barbie and her friends, the beach is a great place for them to spend their days showing off their new outfits. Cali Girl Dolls wear fashion tops and shorts and come with some great jewellery and accessories. Barbie has been around for over 40 years and the fact that she remains a popular doll today shows how reinventing herself has proved successful. Barbie has featured in so many different themes, but her traditional long legs, beautiful hair and facial features have remained constant, with only subtle changes made to keep her up to date with the latest looks. Bratz Dolls have been introduced into the market in direct competition with Barbie, and though young girls seem to love the 'Passion for Fashion' dolls, Barbie has managed to keep her place in the market. Cali Girl Barbie seems to be an update on Malibu Barbie, and Mattel has also launched the Barbie Fashion Fever line in an attempt to attract older girls that have been tempted by the Bratz dolls. Cali Girl Dolls all come with sun tanned skin and are scented like sun tan lotion, all ready for lounging around looking great on the beach. Barbie's split with Ken caused a lot of attention and her new boyfriend Blaine seems young and fun. Barbie definitely looks great after a little bit of sun and California beaches seem to be where she belongs! Blaine appeared in stores late June 2004 in the second wave of Cali Girl dolls, along with Barbie, Teresa, Summer (Blaine's sister) and Teresa. The first wave of Cali Girl dolls included Barbie, Lea, Teresa, Christine, Ken and Steven. 'Cali Girlzine' is the magazine explaining all about the Cali Girl dolls and their personalities and lives in California. Blaine doll was a welcome addition to the Cali Girl line and it's great to see a hot new guy catching Barbie's eye. [edit] Surfing Outfits and CompetitionCali Girl Dolls were launched to appeal to older girls - those who are getting too old for the fantasy Barbie themes such as Barbie Fairytopia and Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus. Cali Girl Dolls are in direct competition with the Bratz Dolls, which have disproportionately large faces, sexy clothing and heavy makeup. Mattel have tried to introduce this range and others, such as Fashion Fever Barbie Dolls, so Barbie will appeal to a larger age group once again. Cali Girl Dolls have been popular and each has their own great style. The traditional Barbie look - skinny, long legs and beautiful hair, remains throughout this beach theme and the dolls suntanned skins and suntan lotion scent has been successful. Each doll comes with different accessories e.g. hats, bags, earrings, surfboards etc. and the product line has proven popular with young girls. The other great thing about the Cali Girl Dolls is that they all come with matching painted toenails - a great feature! User ReviewsComment by aida, Sunday 14th October 2007
