Bob the BuilderFrom ToyReview
[edit] OverviewBob the Builder was first seen on TV in 1999; Bob and a few other characters lived in the small town of Brixwood and young viewers would watch how they got their jobs done on the construction site. Since then, Bob the Builder has become a huge hit in many countries and many more characters have been introduced in Brixwood. Locations such as the North Pole have been travelled to and Bob even has plans to build his own new town! Bob has released Number One singles in the UK charts and his success has been phenomenal. His popularity never seems to fade and young children all around the world learn vital skills such as teamwork and co-operation. This philosophy has led to Bob being a popular choice with parents as well as young children. Many Bob the Builder toys and games exist, in fact only a year after Bob was introduced £60million of licensed products had been sold. [edit] Main Characters[edit] Bob the BuilderBob wears a yellow hardhat and dresses in blue dungarees matched with a red shirt and red boots. He has his tools around his waist and is a cheerful character. Bob was originally created together with a labourer mate 'Lenny'. Bob was initially older with a moustache, however many alterations were made and Bob ended up making his first appearance as a young builder without a moustache. Lenny was dropped and Wendy was introduced in his place. [edit] WendyAt first Wendy was a dizzy character, however she too was thankfully developed into the character she is today. Wendy has long blong hair and a smiling face, she is Bob's reliable friend and business partner who isn't afraid to keep the team in order or help out on the site. [edit] Farmer PicklesFarmer Pickles owns his own farm in the village but is always ready to lend Bob a hand if needed. He is an older character and has a grey moustache but is hard working and efficient. Pickles owns Spud the Scarecrow and Travis, his reliable tractor. He also has a cute little yellow dog named Scruffty. [edit] Scoop the DiggerScoop is a bright yellow tractor digger that is always up for the days challenge. He is the main leader on the construction site. [edit] Lofty the CraneA bright blue crane tractor with six wheels and a beeming blue smile. Lofty is a shy character and looks up to Scoop. [edit] Muck the Digger DumperMuck is bright red and has the capability to dig and dump dirt; he is therefore a handy character to have around on the building site! [edit] Roley the RollerRoley is a lime green steamroller that has two large wheels at the back and a wide roller at the front. One of Roley's key characteristics is his love of singing. All the toy character figures are available to buy, as are games, videos, books, CDs, Bob the Builder Lego, bedroom accessories, party accessories, school equipment and costumes, and most things you could possibly think of! Children learn with the songs, stories and video of Bob the Builder and his character continually increases in popularity. [edit] Bob's JourneyBob the Builder was originally created by Keith Chapman in the late 1980's. Keith saw a JCB on a building site and decided it would be a fun children's character, hence the founding of Scoop. Other machines soon followed and Bob was then created, as the machines needed a human operator. Keith used to tell his young children stories of Bob's adventures in the yard, but Keith's ideas only gained interest when he took his project to HIT entertainment in 1996. The series was premiered on the BBC in 1999 and by the end of 2000, Bob had been sold to 108 countries. Bob the Builder has now had eight series, with three feature length specials and is currently developing a new spin-off project - 'Project: Build It'. In 2000 Bob had a number one hit in the UK singles chart with 'Can We Fix It?' and a year later Bob's adaptation of Lou Bega's 'Mambo No. 5' also reached number one. Bob the Builder is a hard-working builder, working to get his jobs done and having fun doing them. His can-do attitude relates to his catchphrase: 'Can We Build It? Yes We Can'. He works with his business partner Wendy who makes sure the team is organised, her catchphrase is: 'Well we'd better get started team!' The animation series is set in Bob's yard in the town of Brixwood. Scoop the Digger, Lofty the Crane, Muck the Digger Dumper, Roly the Steamroller, Dizzy the Cement Mixer, Travis the Tractor, Benny the Robo Digger, Scrambler the all-terrain vehicle all join Bob and Wendy on the construction site. Their positive attitude ensures all jobs are completed and their adventures demonstrate how teamwork and resolving conflicts can lead to positive results. Scruffy, Pilchard, Spud, Bird and Farmer Pickles are other characters in the series, however many more now exist. Bob's world has continued to expand over the series, and additional characters and locations have all been introduced to maintain popularity with young viewers. The once little world of Bob the Builder is not so little anymore! Bob the Builder is shown on Cbeebies on BBC TV in the UK and Bob the Builder magazines are available fortnightly.
