Uploading an image onto the Toy Review

  1. You will need to create an account or log in to be able to upload an image. If you are unsure how to do this please read the Sign Up section.

  2. Make sure the page you want to add a photograph on is on your computer screen and press the 'edit' button. In the screenshot below we are adding an image to the 'Barbie Goes Hollywood' page:
  3. important info  After you have pressed edit, you should see the toolbar shown below at the top of the screen.

  4. Click on the 6th button along - (the one with the little picture of a photograph on). In the editing box below you should now see [[Image:Example.jpg]].
  5. Decide what you want to call your image.
  6. important info  Make sure there are no spaces in between otherwise it won't work (e.g 'barbie-goes-hollywood' will work but 'barbie goes hollywood' won't). It's also best to not use any capital letters when naming your image or things can start to get confusing!

  7. Now replace the word 'Example' with the name you've decided on like so: [[Image:barbie-goes-hollywood.jpg]]. It is important to use this exact layout, or the image will not work. (This is shown where the black arrow is pointing in the image below).
  8. Press 'Save Page' (where the red arrow is pointing in the image above) This is important, it won't work if you press the 'Show Preview' button here. After you've pressed 'Save Page', you will see a link on the page called Image:barbie-goes-hollywood.jpg (or whatever you've called your image). Click on this link (as shown by the red arrow below) to be taken to the upload section.

  9. You will see the following sentence: No file by this name exists, you can upload it. Click on the 'upload it' part of the sentence, as shown below:
  10. Click on the 'browse' button and find where the image you want to upload has been saved on your computer.
  11. Once you have found it, click on the image and press open. This will automatically fill in the 'Source filename' box for you.
  12. Click on the 'Upload file' button at the bottom (shown by the black arrow in the picture below).
  13. important info  If everything's gone well, you should now see your image. If not, stay calm and try again from the beginning. The screenshot below shows how the image will look if you've been successful:

  14. If you scroll down the page you will come to a heading called 'Links' and underneath there will be a link back to the page you are trying to add your image to (shown by the black arrow in the screenshot below). Click on this link and you will be taken back to that page.
  15. important info  Now you just need to change the image to a thumbnail (which gives it a pretty border) and decide what size you want it to be.

  16. Click the 'edit' button once again.
  17. All you need to do now is put the word 'thumb' into the funny square brackets like so: [[Image:barbie-goes-hollywood.jpg|thumb]].
  18. important info  The symbol infront of the word 'thumb' is called a pipe - this is usually next to the 'shift' button on your keyboard (you need to press the shift and the pipe keys at the same time to get the symbol to work).

  19. Then simply decide what size you want the image to be and add this after the 'thumb' part like so: [[Image:barbie-goes-hollywood.jpg|thumb|100px]].
  20. important info  Notice how the 'thumb' and the '100px' have been seperated again using the pipe symbol (very important) and the letters px have been typed after the size - px stands for pixels and must be used after the size of the image otherwise the image will not work properly.

  21. Now you can add a title to your image - again seperate the title using the pipe symbol.
  22. important info  Each image you do will need the word 'thumb', a width and a title, so the text should look like this: [[Image:barbie-goes-hollywood.jpg|thumb|100px|Barbie Goes Hollywood]]. This is shown by the red arrow below:

  23. The image will automatically be aligned to the right of the page, if you would like to align your image to the left use another pipe followed by the word left, eg. [[Image:goes-hollywood-madison.jpg|thumb|100px|Barbie Goes Hollywood|left]]. Again, this is shown by the red arrow below:
  24. Finally click on the 'Save page' button (shown by the black arrow above) and you should have successfully uploaded an image - well done! Below is how it should look when completed:
  25. important info  If your image isn't showing make sure the page has some writing on - sometimes the image won't show up if there's no writing. If you want to edit your image simply press the 'edit' button again.
