Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)
The much awaited 'Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games' is here at last! Mario and Sonic have been arch rivals in the video games world for a long time, but now they star together as Nintendo and Sega join forces for the first time.

Based on the 2008 Beijing Olympics, team Mario and team Sonic compete against each other and well known characters including Knuckles, Yoshi, Tails and Luigi in track and field events, all desperate to win that all important gold medal.

Race each other in the fantastic swimming pool, or see who can perform the perfect spins and somersaults on the trampoline. Other events include table tennis, rowing, archery, long jump and fencing, the list just goes on!

An absolute must for all Nintendo and DS fans!

At first glance, this seemed like a great game for the preschoolers, with its fun olympics-style play and the 3+ rating. The characters are cute, the games are relatively easy to learn, and the multiplayer options make for a good party experience. However, after we played it a couple of times, we noticed that the characters all have little tantrums if they don't get a medal (and sometimes they still react badly if they don't come first!). Sure enough, after a few play experiences our own children started reacting the same way when they lost in other games. We had to stop them playing this game because they were learning to react badly if they didn't win. I'm sure it's a fun game for the older kids, but if you want your kids to learn how to be good sports (and not have to win every time), give this one a miss.
